Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides service to patients in designated care settings, including acute, short and long-term care, by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments. Responsibilities include:
- Obtaining a thorough medical history from patients and performing examinations/assessments.
- Analyzing and interpreting information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
- Coordinating care by rounding on patients as necessary.
- Formulating treatment plans and prescribing medications as legally authorized.
- Maintaining complete and detailed records of patient health care plans.
- Consulting with or referring patients to appropriate specialists.
- Providing patients with information to promote health and prevent disease.
- Counseling patients and family members about self-management of health issues.
- Conducting research and incorporating evidence-based practice guidelines into care.
- Maintaining current knowledge of state legal regulations and payer systems.
Qualifications
Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances.
Certified Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP) or (AGACNP-BC) or (ACNPC-AG) or Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC).
Demonstrated current competence in providing care for an adequate volume of patients in the past twelve months, or completion of master’s/post-master’s degree program in the past twelve months.
